On March 1, Salinlahi, a children’s advocate group held a protest at Mabuhay Rotonda and called for President Aquino’s immediate resignation. The activity was joined by 100 children coming from different communities in Metro Manila.
Kharlo Manano, Salinlahi Secretary General, criticized Aquino for implementing a ‘total war’ policy in Mindanao. “He is a hypocrite, he pretends that he is pushing for peace, but in reality, he is advocating war to our brethren in Mindanao” he added.
“Children will be directly affected by armed conflict” added Manano. A 6 year old child, Sarah Panangulon, was killed during the botched Mamasapano operation.
“Government should prioritize providing solutions to the youth’s problems such as illiteracy and lack of schools” said Mark Bonganay, a 14-year old member of Salinlahi Childrens’ Collective.
